Teeth whitening is a process that can lighten the color of your teeth by seven to eight shades. Whitening is essentially a chemical reaction that oxidizes the outer surface of the tooth using products based on hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide.
There are two methods for teeth whitening - in-office whitening and at-home whitening.
In-office whitening delivers faster results but uses products with higher concentrations. At-home whitening is done by the patient using a transparent tray made to fit over the teeth, with products of lower concentration. The results are achieved more slowly, but it is less aggressive on the tooth surface.
